Chautauqua County Burn Ban

 8-1-2023

Due to forecast conditions, depleted resources, and no relief in the near future, the Chautauqua County Emergency Manager has issued a ban on open burning.

This ban prohibits any person from open burning, including, but not limited to setting fire to any forest,
grass, range, crop, or other wildlands, or building a campfire or bonfire, or burning trash or other
materials that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other wildlands fire.

Chautauqua County Ordinance No. 2019-1, which can be found at,
https://www.chautauquacountyks.com/sites/g/files/vyhlif4256/f/uploads/20..., addresses failing to observe a burn ban:

“d. Failure to Observe a Burn Ban. If any person conducts an open burn on a day on which the County
or State of Kansas has imposed a burn ban, a fine of One Thousand Dollars ($1000) may be assessed.”
This ban will be lifted as soon as the conditions in Chautauqua County improve. The volunteer
firefighters of Chautauqua County appreciate your cooperation.
