About Elgin

Elgin was established in 1869 by L.P Getman located on the Kansas-Oklahoma state line once known as one of the largest cattle shipping sites, a hangout for the Dalton Boys and classed as a Ghost Town with a population of 87.

It is 8 miles west of Chautauqua, Kansas on county road or 6 miles NW of Boulanger, Oklahoma from Highway 99. Elevation 784.

Elgin has a Senior Citizen Organization, Community Center, City Park, located on west Grand street, Methodist Church, and the Elgin Cemetery, located north of town on Caney Road.
